Archbishop Condemns Injustice: Masses Suffer as Criminals Walk Freely

 

The Archbishop of the African Church, Most Reverend Solomon Ojumu, has urged judges to uphold the rule of law, emphasizing that the masses continue to suffer while criminals evade justice due to their connections with powerful individuals. Speaking during a special church service titled “Let Justice Flow” at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta, Ojumu highlighted the need for truth and justice to ensure a peaceful society.

He criticized the ongoing injustice, where the elite escape accountability for their actions, leaving ordinary citizens to bear the consequences. "The masses suffer not silently, but openly, without assistance," Ojumu remarked, calling for justice to be served swiftly and impartially.

He further encouraged judges, particularly in Ogun State, to perform their duties diligently, acknowledging that while they are doing their best, more needs to be done to reduce criminal activity in society.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his remarks, affirmed that justice is a collective responsibility and pledged continued support for fostering a conducive legal environment. He urged judges to improve service delivery and address the backlog of cases while exploring alternative methods of dispute resolution.

The State’s Chief Judge, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, assured the public of a faster dispensation of justice, noting the need for more judges and infrastructure to meet the demands of the legal system. She expressed confidence that Governor Abiodun is aware of these needs and committed to addressing them.
