Calabar Carnival Commissioner Frustrated By 500K Each Remix Fee For "Eyen Calabar"(video)

Earlier today, Effiom Trombone, the Commissioner for the Calabar Carnival Commission, shared his frustrations on Facebook regarding the remix of his hit song, "Eyen Calabar." The idea to revamping the track came from renowned producer Pat4Peace, who saw it as a perfect opportunity to celebrate Calabar’s vibrant culture. He suggested that adding the star power of South-South’s top rappers, Upper X and Youngbone, would elevate the song and draw more attention.

Effiom was thrilled by the idea and quickly reached out to both artists. But what he didn’t expect was the steep price tag—500,000 Naira each—to have them on the track. Shocked by the demands, Effiom expressed his disappointment, feeling the request was excessive given the cultural significance of the project.

The commissioner’s post has sparked conversation, with many weighing in on the challenges and costs associated with collaborating with big-name artists, even when the project is meant to highlight local heritage and culture.
