Ololade Ayelabola, a student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), has set a new Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest distance walked by a model, completing a 130.62 km catwalk. Ayelabola began her attempt on October 1 at the UNILAG indoor sports centre, initially aiming for 120 km but extending her walk to cover an additional 10 km, completing 2,058 laps in total.
In an Instagram post, Ayelabola stated that her record-breaking walk was not just a personal achievement but a statement for models who face limitations due to stereotypes, as well as a way to highlight the creativity of Nigeria’s fashion industry.
Her accomplishment is currently awaiting verification from GWR. The previous record was set in 1983 by Roberta Brown and Lorraine McCourt, who walked 114.4 km in Dublin, Ireland.Â
